Solar_RoofThe environment is on a lot of people’s minds. Even more than this, the country is concerned about our dependency on non-renewable resources and foreign oil. This has led to a surge in alternative energy exploration as more Americans open up to the idea of “going green.”

Solar technology is rising to the top as the most popular and viable alternative energy solution available. This is for a variety of reasons. One of the biggest reasons is that solar energy is completely renewable. We will never run out of sunlight, and we can make a lot of energy with it. Another reason is that the creation of solar energy does not pollute the environment.

There are other reasons why solar energy has become popular for residential use. One is that solar cells are very low-profile. Unless someone is looking for them, sometimes it is difficult to realize that they are even present. They also do not make any noise, so they don’t disturb anyone. These are a couple reasons why they are welcome in many neighborhoods.

Solar cells are what create solar power. They were invented by Bell Laboratories in the 1950s. The technical name for solar technology is photovoltaic technology. A group of solar cells can be referred to as a group of solar panels, or a photovoltaic array.

There are multiple solar technologies on the market that anyone can get. Solar cell technology is interesting to homeowners who have the authority to install that on their homes. Unfortunately people who rent will often have a harder time getting solar power because solar technology often involves equipment being permanently installed. Often this goes against the lease agreement.

But there are some things renters can get to save money on their bills that shouldn’t go against their lease agreement.

Solar lights are a great option all around. We always need lights, and they constitute a large portion of most people’s power bill, so if some of them can be run off solar power, this can really put a dent in your bill. Renters can buy a wide array of outdoor solar lights, from porch lights to garden lights. These charge during the day, and then turn themselves on when it gets dark. They are inexpensive to buy, and can give you great outdoor lighting without making a bill for you to pay.

You can buy solar batteries to power things around your home. They come in many sizes, and can cut down on the number of batteries you have to buy (and subsequently throw away.) These batteries can be bought to power a computer, or even something as large as a golf cart.

Solar heaters are popular for renters and homeowners alike, because they do not have to be permanent. They can actually be built at home if you have a little DIY experience or know-how. They can be used to heat water for showers or pool water, keeping your bill down.

If you are building a house, and are interested in making it as solar-powered as possible, there are a ton of options available to you. One option that is fairly new is solar shingles. They are very thin photovoltaic cells that install on your roof. These are becoming very popular because they work well and look like regular shingles. Unless you know what you are looking for, you may never realize what they are! They are made to be as efficient as possible, and withstand whatever the weather may throw at them.

There has never been a better time to add solar energy to your home and life. Advances in the field of solar technology have made products cheaper and more accessible to anybody who is interested in them.

Many states are offering rebates to people who add solar power to their homes. California in particular is trying to help people get solar energy at a reduced price. There are even some loans designed for people who want to add a photovoltaic system to their home. In some states you can actually sell any excess electricity your system makes back to the grid.

By getting solar power in your home, you are supporting the advance of alternative energies. You will find your bills are smaller, and you will know that you are doing your part to make our country a better place and less dependent on foreign oil.
