Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Feist presents certificates to the BAU in Munich

Darmstadt / Munich. The design flexibility in the planning of a Passive House is growing.

The number of newly certified by the Passive House Institute components reached 2012 a Record – a total of 134 products were awarded the recognized PHI seal of quality. Special requests a builder for architects are also at the highest standards of energy efficiency so no longer a problem: Even for components such as doors, skylights and balcony systems some manufacturers have now become certified products. At the trade fair BAU 2013 Munich in the Passive House Institute will award certificates for a number of new products. (more…)

If the world comes to an end, model Naomi Campbell and her nearest and dearest will have no trouble surviving in this 25 roomed eco-home. Designed by one of our favorite new architects Luis de Garrido, the glass domed house is completely energy and water self-sufficient and features an amazing indoor landscaped terrace. Everything about Naomi’s new house is a dream: its comfortable microclimate, its constant flow of air, light and heat when necessary, its superior landscaping, and of course the fact that it was built on the Isla Playa de Cleopatra in Turkey (notice the Egyptian theme.) A recent report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said that 77 percent of the world’s energy could come from renewable sources by 2050, as long as governments adopt the right policies. A new working paper, Grounding Green Power, outlines the key components of smart renewable energy policy in developing countries, focusing on the electrical power sector. The paper, from the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF), in cooperation with the Heinrich Böll Foundation, suggests priorities for international donors looking to make the most efficient investments in clean energy. Multilingual sustainable construction glossary

The beginning of this year’s EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) was marked by the launch conference of the multilingual version of the Common Language ‘sustainable construction glossary’. The multilingual version of this project was formally introduced on 11 April, at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), in partnership with the Architects Council of Europe (ACE) and the European Concrete Platform (ECP).

EESC President Staffan Nilsson launched the glossary. The conference was also attended by the director of the ACE, Adrian Joyce and Bernd Wolschner, president of the ECP. Vice President of the EESC Anna Maria Darmanin also participated in the conference, and the event was hosted by EESC TEN Section President Stéphane Buffetaut. There were discussions involving contributions from many experts in the field of sustainable construction, including non-governmental and national representatives, supplemented by senior officials from the European Commission. UN Initiative Will Bring Energy Efficiency to East Africa’s Buildings

This week, it was announced that a joint plan from the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to promote energy efficiency in East African buildings was approved by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), to the tune of $2,853,000. Now that the acronyms and numbers are out of the way, here’s what’s happening:
